Award for Ramen Barua, Tilmizur Rahman

GUWAHATI, Dec 2 � Veteran music director Ramen Barua and noted actor Tilmizur Rahman have been chosen for the Lifetime Achievement Award for Cultural Excellence, 2011, instituted by Jeewan Ram Mungi Devi Goenka Memorial Trust.

The award carries a plaque, trophy, shawl and a cheque of Rs 50,000 each.

The award will be formally presented on December 4 at the ITA Pragjyoti Cultural Centre, Machkhowa at 5 pm, informed Shankar Lall Goenka, managing trustee of the Trust.

This year, the Jeewan Ram Mungi Devi Goenka Memorial Lecture will be delivered by noted scholar and Pro Vice chancellor of Tezpur Central University Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury. The topic of the lecture is �Film, Literature and the River Between�. The lecture and the presentation programme will be followed by live concert by internationally famous troupe �The Shillong Chamber Choir�

Well-known film editor A Sreekar Prasad, who has a record haul of eight National Awards for film editing, will be the chief guest of the function. Eminent filmmaker Jahnu Barua will be the guest of the honour.

Moreover, the trust will also felicitate nine noted socio-cultural personalities of Assam. Those to be felicitated include Dr Harsha Bhattacharjee (eye specialist), Devi Prasad Bagrodia (writer and social worker), Gorima Hazarika (classical dancer), Biju Phukan (actor), Vidya Rao (actress), Munin Barua (director), Riniki Bhuyan Sarma (producer), Jadumoni Dutta (director) and Nurul Sultan (producer).
