AVA plans to promote school tourney

GUWAHATI, May 16 � The new body of the Assam Volleyball Association (AVA) is planning to introduce school volleyball tournament in all the affiliated districts.

After taking over, the AVA had convened its maiden executive committee meeting today here and resolved to hold the senior inter district at Diphu. AVA president Bhopen Bora, addressing mediapersons after the meeting revealed that Bhergaon and Mangaldai have been allotted the mini and junior inter district tournaments.

Bora, however, asserted that as the number of district representatives was quite low, the sub-junior meet could not be allotted to any district.

Bora further informed, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will adorn the chief patron�s post of the body while APCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita, Ministers Bharat Chandra Narah, Rockybul Hussain and MP Kumar Deepak Das will be the patrons.

The AVA secretary, said apart from introducing school volleyball meet at the district level, they are also planning to organise a coaches� clinic to produce more numbers of trainers.

President of the Tezpur District Sports Association Bijit Saikia while addressing mediapersons said at Tezpur that an indoor hall for volleyball will be completed soon so that more spikers can be produced from that area by practising through out the year. AVA vice-president Susanta Biswa Sarma was also present in the press meet and he suggested organised and scientific practice for the younsters.
