SILCHAR, Sept 13 - In a bid to obtain updated data on weather in forests and augment environmental research, the Cachar Forest Division is all set to install an automated weather station here.

We are going to set up the automated weather station on September 18 in the Innerline Reserve Forest at Dholai.

It will be a great asset for all the people of this region who are interested in studying long-term effect of climate change on forest ecosystem or any other related issues, Cachar DFO Sunny Deo Chaudhury told The Assam Tribune on Monday.

Chaudhury further informed that the weather station shall help to gauge the congeniality of different species including variety of trees in this region.

Meanwhile, noted environmentalist, Prof Parthankar Choudhury shared his happiness over the forthcoming event and said that the latest station shall motivate the researchers for better understanding of the crucial areas of environment. In his words, The Toklai Tea Research Association at Silcoorie tea garden had such a manually operated station. We hope that with the introduction of the automated weather station, research activities shall become smoother and effective.
