AUDCTA, college teachers boycott Teacher�s Day in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, Sept 6 - The Assam University Diphu campus Teachers Association (AUDCTA) observed �Black Day� on Teacher�s Day showing solidarity with the All India Federation of College & University Teachers� Association for fulfillment of their legitimate demands for implementation of the recommendations of 7th Pay Commission.

The teachers of the AU, Diphu campus and colleges boycotted the Teacher�s Day celebrations. The teachers wore black badge and took out a procession to the administrative building and submitted a memorandum. The programme was scheduled from 1 pm 2 pm without hampering normal class routine, Dr A K Tamuli, professor of AU, Diphu Campus informed.

Showing solidarity with the protest call of the AIFUCTO, the teachers� body demanded scrapping of CAS in promotion, abolition of NPS and thereby implementation of the GPF system, facilitation of funds for research etc.. The teachers also demanded immediate publication of report and implementation of 7th UGC recommendations after consultation with the AIFUCTO and other college teacher bodies.

The teachers demanded 100 per cent financial assistance from the Central Government at least for five years for uniform and simultaneous implementation of 7th pay scales for university and college teachers. The teacher�s body also demanded rejection of pension scheme of 2004 and pension to all teachers scrapping of API and existing dates for orientation and refresher courses. It may be mentioned here that the other college teachers in Karbi Anglong also observed the �Black Day� and boycotted Teacher�s Day.

On the other hand, the Teacher�s Day was observed with pomp and gaiety at Diphu Government College and other educational institutions across the district. Raju Gogoi, Professor, Diphu Government College said that the Teacher�s Day was observed traditionally with different programme as per the direction of the Central as well as State Governments.

It needs to be mentioned here that the Teacher�s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in every school this year. Besides, massive preparations for the upcoming Gunotsav celebration were also seen in every educational institution in the district.

Plantation drive, various competition events like drawing competition, extempore speech, poem recitation, national anthem and state songs singing competition etc., were held on the occasion of the Teacher�s Day among the students here on Tuesday.
