ATWU demands settlement of pending PF

DIBRUGARH, Nov 2 - The Assam Tea Workers� Union has expressed concern over non settlement of Provident Fund (PF) of several tea garden workers across the State.

Isak Korkoria, general secretary, ATWU has called upon the State Government to intervene into the alleged financial scam in the tea industry. �Several tea estates have failed to settle the Provident Fund while many have not deposited the deducted Provident Fund of workers for several years,� Korkoria told this newspaper.

The Assam Tea Workers� Union has also written to the Chairman and Secretary of the ATPPF & P F Scheme, apprising them of the exploitation of the tea garden workers. Korkoria mentioned that about 65 former workers of Saurabh TE have been denied the Provident Fund , Gratuity and Pension for more than six years. Similarly the retired workers in Sarojini tea estate have also not received their social security deposits, he said.

The union has urged upon the government to enquire into the scam and ensure early payment of the dues to the affected workers.
