JORHAT, Feb 21 - The members of the Jorhat district committee of the Assam Tea Tribes Students� Association (ATTSA) staged a sit-in demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner�s office here on Friday in support of their five-point charter of demands.
While seeking tribal status for the tea garden workers of the State, they reminded the State Government to provide land patta to the dwellers in the gardens. They also demanded increase in the daily wage of tea garden labour to Rs 300.
Moreover, expressing serious concern over the threatening of a new insurgent group called Moran Tigers Force in Tinsukia district, the ATTSA members said that the State Government should identify the members of the outfit soon and punish them for their crime of threatening the �tea-tribe people� in the district.
Seeking the fulfilment of their demands, ATTSA district president Santosh Chik and secretary Tankeswar Rajput submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the deputy commissioner.
