GUWAHATI, March 28 - Encroachers tried to burn forests inside the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary today, apparently in a bid to set up dwellings.
Eye-witnesses said attempts were being made by the miscreants for the last few days in the Birkuchi area.
�However, today we saw a huge fire. There were about four to five men near it. Smoke was billowing out of the forest since morning,� they said.
Senior forest officials were alerted and they had sent a team to the site. �The forest staff have been asked to visit the place and take strict action against the miscreants,� a senior forest official said.
