Attacks on scribes at Tinsukia, Mukalmua flayed

UDALGURI, April 27 - The Udalguri Press Club today condemned the criminal attacks on two scribes by groups of anti-social elements at Tinsukia and Mukalmua in Nalbari district on April 25 last and demanded security provisions for the scribes and immediate action against the culprits.

Stating this in a press communique, G Talukdar and B Upadhyaya, president and secretary respectively of the scribes� body lamented the hollowness of government action against such anti-social elements which have become a major concern in everyday life. The government should act promptly to nab the culprits and give exemplary punishment at the earliest, the press club release added.

It is pertinent to mention here that one Upasana Baruah Goswami, a lady journalist serving in Tinsukia district and Rajendra Deka, journalist of Dainik Asam from Mukalmua in Nalbari district were attacked and manhandled by two groups separately in two incidents on April 25 last.

Our Goalpara Correspondent adds: The Goalpara District Journalists� Association (GDJA) has condemned the attack on Mukalmua-based journalist of Dainik Asam, Rajen Deka with sharp weapons on Thursday night allegedly by some BJP workers at Tegheriattari village under Mukalmua PS in Nalbari district.

The incident was condemned by the journalist association following an emergent meeting which was presided over by GDJA president Dilip Kr Sarma. Further, the GDJA demanded immediate investigation and arrest of all the culprits .The GDJA also said that the journalists have been at the receiving end who have scant respect for democracy and rule of law.

ANN Service from Sivasagar adds: The journalist fraternity in the district has condemned the attack on journalist Rajen Deka of Mukalmua working with the Dainik Asam and Upasana Baruah Goswami (News 18) of Tinsukia by unidentified miscreants on April 26. Somesh Deka and Joijyoti Gogoi, president and secretary respectively of Sivasagar District Journalists� Association through a memorandum to the government condemned the incident and demanded exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of the crime.

Padum Saikia, president AAPCU, Sivasagar district unit, Amrit Sarmah, treasurer, Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad, Bhaskar Biswanath, secretary, SAKP, Uzzal Thakur, secretary, Rongpur Sahitya Sabha and various other organisations have condemned the incidents.
