JORHAT, Nov 3 - Local outfit Milanjyoti Sangha edged past Halowating FC of Amguri by a solitary goal in the inaugural match of the 53rd ATPA Shield Football Tournament.
At the Jorhat Stadium here today, Rajib Karmakar fired the match winning goal in the 71st minute.
It was an entertaining encounter as the Amguri team appeared in a professional way with a player from Ghana. But the local boys were determined to win the match and they did. Rajib beat the opponent goalkeeper with a powerful volley. They even earned a spot kick in the 35th minute but failed to find the target.
Earlier ex Santosh Trophy player Herold Sangma formally inaugurated the championship.
