Atirudra Mahayajna gets under way at Amingaon

BAIHATA CHARIALI, Sept 19 - The seven-day Atirudra Mahayajna began at Amingaon from today with the performance of religious rituals. As many as 130 priests from South India took part in the yajna being held on the occasion.

Bishnu Prasad, the principal priest, said that the yajna ceremony would start at 7 am and end at 7 pm every day. Two yajna sessions will be performed daily.

�In the first session today, we performed �Ganapati Parayana� (Ganesh Yajna) with the chanting of Shiva Stuti (prayers to Lord Shiva) and offering of ahuti to the fire. In the second session, �Chandi Parayana� was done, Prasad said.

Thousands of devotees thronged the yajna venue today. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Health and Family Welfare Minister, took part in the yajna and offered ahuti.

The yajna venue has been decorated with flowers and other items, giving a festive look to the surroundings and attracting devotees and visitors.
