ATEU diamond jubilee on Jan 27-28

GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - The diamond jubilee celebration of the Assam Tribune Employees� Union (ATEU) will be held in the Tribune premises here on January 27 and 28.

The two-day event would be inaugurated by the Supreme Court Judge from Assam, Justice Ranjan Gogoi. Eminent educationist Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury will be present as the chief guest.

Hrishikesh Goswami, media adviser to the Chief Minister, will be present as a distinguished guest of the inaugural event.

Preparations are on in full swing to make the event a grand success. A meeting of the ATEU Diamond Jubilee Celebration Organising Committee and several sub-committees held today decided to invite Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to inaugurate the open meeting on the second day of the event on January 28. Eminent journalist P Sainath will be the chief guest of the open meet, while CITU president Dr K Hemlata has been invited as a distinguished speaker.

A number of other trade union leaders, including All India Newspaper Employees Federation president SD Thakur, general secretary Balagopalan, treasurer Roopchand and general secretary B Bhupati, and MS Yadav, general secretary of the Confederation of Newspaper and News Agency Employees Organisation, would be attending the event.

Today�s meeting was presided over by ATEU president Siva Prasad Deka, where the Union general secretary Dugdha Ram Kalita explained the objectives.

The diamond jubilee celebration programme will comprise drawing, quiz and extempore speech competitions, cultural events, procession, seminars and a number of other activities.
