ATDC chief announces Rs 75-cr package for Majuli

JORHAT, Nov 19 - Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah announced the sanctioning of a Rs75-crore package by the government to develop Majuli island as an international tourist destination.

Baruah said that the infrastructure in the island will be made top-class within the next two years with funds from the package by the ATDC in order to attract tourists.

He said that four resorts in the three-star or above level categories will be constructed at different places of Majuli.�

Baruah further said that four new�rooms with all modern amenities will be added to the ATDC-owned Prashaanti Lodge at Kamalabari in the island as part of the plan to boost tourism in Majuli.

He said that in a bid to woo tourists across the globe, cruise tours have been proposed similar to those in Singapore and Hong Kong on the Brahmaputra from Kamalabari ghat in Majuli to Nematighat in Jorhat.

To showcase Majuli�s Satriya and other cultures of different tribal communities, an open air theatre complex will come up under the package, the ATDC Chairman said.�

After the new BJP-led Government assumed office in May 2016, a number of schemes and projects have been announced by the Government for Majuli.
