ATASU tribute to Gogoi, Lachit Borphukon

GUWAHATI, Nov 24 - The All Tai Ahom Students� Union (ATASU) Kamrup Metro district committee Guwahati under the leadership of Chao Basant Gogoi, president and accompanied by Deep Chiring Phukon, organising secretary, ATASU central committee,bid adieu to the mrtal remains of Tarun Gogoi, former Chief Minister of Assam at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, a press release stated.

Basanta Gogoi said that it was the end of an era in Assam. �Tarun Gogoi, a lawyer-politician was a popular Chief Minister and a veteran leader not only of Assam but nationally also. People will always remember his contribution to the development of Assam during his three-term tenure as the chief minister of Assam, � he said.

In the evening time at Saraighat Ron Smriti Udyan Agyathuri, ATASU members present at the venue Polash Baruah, Bhupen Gogoi, chief organizing secretary, of the district committee planted trees of different varieties including those of bokul, jamun and momai tamul in the memory of Tarun Gogoi and Veer Lachit Borphukon.

The plantation drive was followed by lighting of earthen lamps to commemorate Veer Lachit Borphukon on his birth anniversary and ATASU member also lit earthen lamps to pay homage to the departed soul of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi.
