By Correspondent

NORTH GUWAHATI, July 27 Under the scheme of beautification and renovation, the boundary wall of the famous Aswaklanta Dewalaya here costing about Rs 50 lakh was implemented by the State Archaeological department in 2008.

The earlier boundary wall were replaced by concrete walls along with decorative electrical installation. But after a lapse of about 18 months, about 35 metres of the boundary wall on the western side of the Dewalaya collapsed probably due to the onslaught of natural elements. The remaining walls too are also likely to be washed away soon if some concrete measures are not promptly taken up by the department.

The scheme of beautification of the Dewalaya was formally inaugurated by Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in 2009 before a public gathering in the foothills of the famous temple.

The public, in general have opined that the works carried out by the Archaeological department were aimed at giving the contractors more margins than what they were legally entitled to.

Educated unemployed: While speaking on the theme, Youth and rural development arranged by the Amingaon based Yuba Vikash Kendra at its conference hall held recently retired Indian Air Force wing commandant, Nileswar Basumatary analysed the various causes of rural backwardness and youth unemployment in the State and asserted how attaining a university degree without any technical expertise was not helpful to a youth in reducing rural unemployment. He added how establishment of small and cottage industries could play a significant role in this regard, for which work culture, self-confidence and learning technical know-how needed to be highlighted in the various programmes undertaken. The problem of insurgency also needed to be solved for preparing ground for a congenial environment, he said.
