GUWAHATI, Oct 13 - Buoyed by the success of its night city bus services during the Durga Puja days, the Assam State Transport Corporation is now considering increasing the timings of its city bus services in the night hours.

The ASTC had operated 260 buses during the Durga Puja days during night hours up to 5 in the morning on all the regular routes.

We had ensured complete mobility throughout the Durga Puja festival. Our services were from Kamakhya city as well as the satellite township to the city. We had covered the entire city to give quality public transport to people throughout the festival days, day and night, ASTC Managing Director Anand Prakash Tiwari said.

He said the response to the night services was extremely good.

The response was extremely good. We are contemplating on increasing the timings of the city bus service, especially in night hours. We will have to assess the scenario and come with a clear thought, Tiwari said.

Last year in October, the Kamrup Metro district administration and the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Kamrup, had introduced 20 city buses on three arterial routes between 8 pm and midnight.

City buses till then had operated till 9 pm.

However, there have been complaints from commuters of lack of public transport during night hours.

Over 1,200 city buses, mostly private, operate in the city. Over 3 lakh people use city buses every day.
