Assembly passes resolution to split UP

By The Assam Tribune

LUCKNOW, Nov 21 Chief Minister Mayawati today pushed through the resolution to split Uttar Pradesh into four parts amid stiff opposition in just a 10-minute sitting of the Assembly which adjourned sine die immediately after passing the controversial proposal by voice vote, reports PTI.

Afer securing the Assembly approval, a belligerent BSP supremo rejected the charge that her move was a political gimmick in an election-bound state and said it was taken out of compulsion since the Centre was not taking any initiative for easier governance of the countrys most populous state.

The special session of the Assembly which began today was meant to be a two-day affair but it was adjourned sine-die by Speaker Rajbhar amid pandemonium in 10 minutes.
