Assams recovery rate among top 3 states

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 22 - Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said Assam was performing better in COVID-19 management than many other states and the States recovery rate (63.3) was among the top three.

The States COVID-19 tally on Monday reached 5586, while 117 more cured patients were discharged during the day taking the total to 3521.

Yesterdays spike of 331 cases was by far the biggest. On June 4, we had 285 cases. However, if we correlate the cases with the number of tests conducted, there is nothing to panic. We had conducted as many as 15,000 tests yesterday, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The doubling rate in the State has also come down from seven days on June 8 to 13 days as on date, he said.

Also, the State crossed another milestone today by crossing the 3 lakh test mark.

Very few states have done this. The number of test conducted per million population in the State now is 8229, which is among the top six states in the country, the Health Minister claimed.

The Minister further informed that 2.43 lakh people have returned to the State from outside till date and all have been tested for COVID-19 and quarantined.

173 trains and 711 flights have come to Assam till date. The number of returnees is gradually decreasing. On June 15, some 8586 people had returned and yesterday the number of returnees was 5000, he said.

Sarma said the last Shramik train is expected on June 23, and after that the number of returnees per day will come down to 1500-2000.

By first week of July the pressure on the quarantine facilities is expected to come down drastically, he added.
