Assam�s culture, people reflect teachings of Sankaradeva, Madhabdeva: Guv

GUWAHATI, Sept 19 - Governor Banwarilal Purohit attended a function �Swagatam Sharat�, which is a part of the All India Sangeet and Nritya Utsav organised by Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh at the Rabindra Bhawan here on Saturday evening.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Purohit said that Indian culture is the most ancient and at the same time very strong because of its deep-rooted faith in the essence of religion. He also said that though in the past several attempts were made to disintegrate this composite Indian culture, all the attempts failed because of its strong root. �We are proud of our rich art and culture, on the basis of which we can become Viswa Guru (World Leader),� the Governor added.

Highlighting the importance of folk dance and folk music, the Governor said that these are an integral part of India�s tradition and culture, and their significance is immense. He said the cultural diversity and rich traditional pattern of Indian society is truly reflected through the variety of Indian folk dances. He urged the present generation to work for preservation of the country's unique identity.

Purohit said Assam owes a great deal to the teachings of Srimanta Sankaradeva and Madhabdeva and the culture and people of the State have had the reflections of the teachings of the great Vaishnavite saints. He also said that the North East is a hub of rich art and culture. Assam and the other NE states have unique and diverse art and dance forms which mesmerise everyone. He stressed the need to showcase these rich dance forms in the global arena.
