GUWAHATI, May 9: Nibir Sarma (19), son of Pankaj Sarma and Namita Sarma from the US and who is studying chemical engineering in the University of Minnesota, won �Jeopardy!� 2020 College Championship, the leading TV quiz show in the US.
His father originally hailed from Assam�s Darrang district.
Hosted by Alex Trebek, game show host and actor, the quiz championship was held among the participants from colleges in the US.
Nibir, who won the championship on April 17, took home a $1,00,000 prize. His feat has been covered widely in the US, including by the daily USA Today and the television channel ABC News.
According to media reports, Nibir is the first winner of the championship from the University of Minnesota, which he represented.
Nibir�s parents, Pankaj Sarma and Namita Sarma who migrated to the US in 1992, were elated over their son�s accomplishment. �It is a prestigious event and we are very happy,� they said.
Nibir was born in the US.
