Assamese weekly newspaper launched

MORIGAON, Oct 26 - Asomiya Natun Sangbad� a weekly newspaper was formally launched from Jagiroad recently in the presence of literary workers, educationists and intellectuals of central Assam. The inaugural function was held at Jagiroad College which was inaugurated by Dr Bhaben Chandra Neog, Principal, Jagiroad College with the lighting of an earthen lamp. The open meeting held on the occasion was presided over by Dalim Phukan, Chief Editor, Asomiya Natun Sangbad.

Explaining the purpose of the meeting, Rajib Saharia, sub-editor, Asomiya Natun Sangbad said that the monthly news magazine published from Jagiroad under the auspices of a young intellectual circle completed its ten-year journey and now it will come out as a weekly which will provide a platform to young writers for their literary exercise in Assamese language. Releasing the weekly, Dr Nanda Sing Borkola, SP, Morigaon expressed satisfaction over the literary and intellectual exercise of the young group and the college students who have been using their pens to write something good. He said that an environment of good journalism and literature will prevail in around Jagiroad through this weekly. The challenges faced by the publisher and editorial board of the weekly must be overcome and at least some good readers will be created in central Assam through this weekly.

Speaking on the occasion, Narayan Kumar Radu Kakoti, noted author of Tiwa language and culture, said the new weekly paper will go in the right direction through indepth study of local culture by the editorial board of the paper. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Khagen Sarma, Principal, Jagiroad Satriya Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, expressed his happiness saying that literary group of Morigaon district has at least completed 10 years of publishing the monthly news magazine and now it will be a weekly.

The function was also attended by Dr Deepak Jyoti Boruah, Profesor, English department, Jagiroad College and secretary, Jagiroad Sahitya Sabha, Hara Mohan Kalita, president, Jagiroad Sahitya Sabha and Atanu Sarma, secretary, Asom Unnati Sabha.
