By A Correspondent

NAGAON, Oct 22 - Various traditional Assamese dishes are immensely popular in many five stars hotels in various foreign countries. Especially, the local fish of the State prepared with elephant apple, chillies like 'Bhoot Jolokiya' have won the hearts of foreign people outside the country like those in the United Arab Emirates, said renowned international chef, Arup Kakoti while addressing an interaction programme with students at Nowgong College.

Kakoti who is working as a chef in a five star hotel in Oman said that Assamese dishes were tasty as well as full of high nutrients and hygienic. Besides, these traditional Assamese dishes are highly healthy as they are always prepared with less oil, he insisted.

Referring to his choice to study Hotel Management, a couple of decades back, Kakoti claimed that at that time, many his friends as well as his family members insisted that he should study medical science instead of hotel management.

But his hard work opened a new vista of life and he settled outside the country as an international chef working at five star hotels. In his one-and-a-half hour interactive speech, Kakoti reiterated that for a chef, cooking food is not only an art, but also a subject of in-depth research.

The programme was presided over by Dr Sarat Borkotoki, the Principal of the college where professors like Dr Dilip Sarma, Dr Deepa Deka, Dr Ranjit Kumar Majindar, Dr Sangeeta Bora and other dignitaries were present.
