GUWAHATI, June 7 � Political scientists from different parts of the State took part in a five-day brain-storming session from June 1 to 5 at the Department of Political Science, Gauhati University (GU) here to determine the Assamese glossary of the terms used in political science.
According to a press release received here, the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology of the Department of Higher Education, Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, organised the session.
The political scientists who took part in the session included Professor Alaka Sarma, Professor Akhil Ranjan Dutta, Dr Dhruba Pratim Sharma, Dr Dwijendra Nath Deka, Dr Imran Hussain, Dr Utpal Saikia, Dibyajyoti Dutta, Priyanka Sarma and Dr Pranjal Sarma Bashistha.
The session was presided over by Professor Alaka Sarma, Head of the Department, GU Political Science. She stated that work on preparation of the political science glossary (Assamese language) that had started in 2013, was almost completed with about 3,600 terms being translated from English to Assamese.
She also highlighted the fact that the glossary would be of immense importance for teachers, researchers and students and would provide useful insight in the study of political science as well as other academic disciplines.
Dr Dhruba Pratim Sharma of GU co-ordinated the meeting to ensure success of the event. The entire programme was the outcome of the sincere efforts made by the Chairman of the Commission, Professor KL Varma and the officer-in-charge, Dr Shahzad Ahmed Ansari, Assistant Scientific officer (Political Science).
Once published, free copies of the glossary will be distributed to all the participants and experts of the seminars, orientation programmes, conferences organised by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology in Assam, said the press release.
