Assamese students feted in Mumbai

GUWAHATI, June 26 - Shreemoyee Asomiya Mahila Mandal (SAMM), Mumbai, a leading Assamese women organisation of Mumbai, has been felicitating the Assamese students securing high percentages in class 10 and 12 final examinations, since its inception. This year, too, a felicitation programme was held on June 24 at Vashi, Navi Mumbai, a press release received here stated.

The function was well attended by students, parents and the general audience. A number of boys and girls were felicitated for their achievements. After the lighting of lamp by dignitaries, the members of the SAMM presented their chorus song. Secretary Indrani Sharma Borpuzari welcomed the guests, students and their parents who attended the programme defying torrential rain.

The Joint Commissioner of Assam Bhawan Mumbai, Devashish Sharma was the chief guest. Dr Chandra Shekhar Sharma, a scientist from ONGC, Mumbai and Jutika Mahanta, a well-known media and marketing professional, were at the dias as the guests of honour. Dipali Goswami, the vice-president of SAMM presided over the function and addressed the audience. Well-known singer Monica Bharadwaj, presented a beautiful song before the audience while Mamoni Gogoi presented the vote of thanks. Dr Moushumi Bora ably compered the programme, the release added.
