Assamese language facing serious threat: Sabha chief

MORIGAON, March 17 - The 15th biennial conference of Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha concluded here recently. The open session held at Gurucharan Medhi Bhavan was presided over by the newly-elected president of Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, Bubumoni Goswami.

Addressing the gathering, Paramananda Rajbongshi, president, Asam Sahitya Sabha said that Assamese language and culture are facing a serious challenge. The Assamese nationality is also faced with a serious challenge which must be countered by the Assamese people, he added. He said that the Sabha will play a vital role in this regard.

Padum Rajkhowa, secretary general, Asam Sahitya Sabha dwelt at length on the plans and schemes of the Sabha for the uplift of Assamese literature and culture. The newsletter of the Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, edited by Chandan Goswami was formally released by Narendra Nath Keot, Central Executive Member, Asam Sahitya Sabha while the souvenir of the session Maidhali was released by Hemen Das, DC, Morigaon. In the open meeting, two books Rahashyamoy Prithivi and Heruwa Premor Subas written by Robiram Bora were also released. In the function, the centenary celebration awardee of Asam Sahitya Sabha Narendra Nath Keot, Ajit Sarma, Siba Hazarika and noted singer Narayan Das were also felicitated.
