Assamese books to be available online

GUWAHATI, May 1 - For the first time, Assamese books will be available online on a large scale, with leading online store amazon.in incorporating over five hundred Assamese books for sale.

In the first stage, books from five popular publications of the State � Jyoti Prakashan, Banalata, Purvanchal, Banphool and Aank-Baak � are being made available for online sale.

The books include works of a host of past and present writers such as Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya, Dr Bhabendranath Saikia, Mamoni Raisom Goswami, Homen Borgohain, Mahim Bora, Dr Lakshmi Nandan Bora, Dr Hiren Gohain, Nilamani Phukan, Arupa Patangia Kalita, Dr Nagen Saikia, Apurba Sharma, Amalendu Guha, Dr Sivanath Barman, Nabin Baruah, Harekrishna Deka, Arup Kumar Dutta, Rita Choudhury, Purabi Barmudoi, Toshaprabha Kalita, Dr Malini, Dilip Kumar Dutta, Ravindra Sarkar, Anuradha Sarma Pujari, Nilim Kumar, Samir Tanti, Sananta Tanti, Ismail Hussain, Bipul Deuri, Manikuntala Bhattacharya, Mayur Bora, Monalisa Saikia, Jivan Narah and Saumitra Jogee among others.

Terming the development as significant, Saumitra Jogee of Aank-Baak publication said that it would fulfil a long-standing need of Assamese readers, � especially those staying outside the State � enabling them to have access to books of their choice through online purchase.

�It�s good news for Assamese readers. Amazon will be selling over 500 books initially and the number would increase in the coming days. This is the first time that such an initiative has been made to sell Assamese books online on a large scale and in an organised manner,� he said.
