With CGHS centre, Silchar to be a medical hub in southern Assam soon, says Dr Rajdeep Roy

By Staff Correspondent

Silchar, Aug 7: Much to the relief of the officials and employees of different Central Government institutions in southern Assam, a centre under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) will soon be inaugurated in Silchar said local MP Dr Rajdeep Roy.

Talking to media persons on Saturday, the Silchar MP who is now in New Delhi said ," at least two years ago, the Government of India had approved three CGHS centres in Assam including the primary centre at Guwahati and two other centres at Dibrugarh and at Silchar. But, because of certain hurdles doctors could not be arranged which had delayed the opening of the centre here.

However, I am pleased to inform people that now doctors have been arranged and the centre will soon be opened which would benefit at least 45,000 beneficiaries working under different Central Government institutions. Also the centre will cater to the medical needs of Central government employees from nearby areas of the region transforming Silchar as a medical hub in southern Assam."

Asked about the worsening condition of the road leading to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), the Parliamentarian replied that he has taken note of the issue and appropriate steps would be taken for proper widening of the all important road which connects not only the SMCH but stretches up to Assam University Silchar connecting the National Institute of Technology Silchar as well. In the words of Dr Roy, "the mistakes done in the 80's with regards to inaction on the widening of roads in Silchar will not be repeated this time."
