Guwahati, April 11: The weather in Assam may spoil people's spirits during the much awaited Rongali Bihu as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms over Assam and and other neighbouring regions during the next five days.
A cyclonic circulation over west Assam and neighbourhood may cause the weather to deteriorate. Moisture incursion is very likely to occur due to strong lower level Southerly/ Southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India during 13-15 April 2022. Under its influence fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely to occur over northeast region during 13-15 April 2022. Thunderstorm/ Lightning with gusty winds (40-50 kmph) is also expected during 13-14 April 2022 over Assam.
The probable impact could be flash floods and water logging in several areas.
