Silchar, Oct 30: The Cachar District police put on display weapons and ammunition for students and the public at the district police reserve here on Saturday.

Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur IPS informed that this is organised as a part of the Police Flag Day observance. " As directed by the honourable DGP Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta IPS, Cachar Police, as a part of the ongoing Police Flag Day observance has put on display weapons and ammunition for the students and public for enhancing police-public interaction. There are lethal and non-lethal weapons on display for the students and public to gauge how the police force uses the weapons in combating crimes and also during emergencies. A marathon was organised as a part of the observance as well. The effort is aimed to narrow the gap between police and public and help the masses to understand the way police work to ensure public safety," the SP said. DSAP Headquarter KK Das was also present on the occasion.

Also on the occasion, floral tributes were paid to the martyred police persons in the Assam Mizoram interstate border clash earlier this year. Nilofer Talukdar, a student of Cachar College and also an NCC cadet said, "I wish to join the defense services and serve my country. I am thrilled to learn about the functional aspects of the weapons on display.
