Wanted dacoit killed in police encounter at Bilasipara

Dhubri, Sept 12: An alleged dacoit, wanted in many cases registered at various police stations of Dhubri and Bongaigaon districts, was killed in a police encounter at Bilasipara area in the early hours of Sunday.

In the operation led by SDPO Bilasipara, Birinchi Borah, along with OC Bilasipara Sanjib Kumar Das, OC Chapar, Pranab Doley and Salkocha Out-post In-charge, Bipul Das, police open fired a pack of dacoits on the early hours of Sunday, in which one of the dacoits identified as Sahidul Ali @ Sahidul Islam @ Boga Sahidul @ Shuji, scrummed to injuries.

Dhubri SP Abjit Gurav informed that based on a specific information a naka checking was set up at few places of Bilasipara and Chapar area to apprehend a pack of dacoits, who riding on motorcycles and was travelling from Bongaigaon towards Bilasipara to rob.

"The dacoits somehow escaped the Chapar naka and were trapped between Hakama point and Beltoli point," said Gurav. He also added that when both the police team were ready to nab the pack of dacoits they started firing the police personnel.

"Police fired nine rounds of bullets in self-defense, the dacoits escaped the scenario but a bullet hit one of the dacoits and he fell down from the motorcycle and rest of the five dacoits fled from the spot taking advantage of darkness", said the SP of Dhubri District. The dacoit was identified as Sahidul Ali alias Sahidul Islam alias Boga Sahidul alias Shuji son of Mohammad Ali resident of Raumari, Chapar.

Later, the police recovered one 9mm pistol, two live ammunition and two shells of blank bullets from the place where he fell down from the motorcycle. The wounded dacoit was admitted to Bilasipara Civil Hospital, who was later forwarded to Dhubri Civil Hospital, where he was shot in the back.


"Earlier he was arrested by Chapar and Bongaigaon police as many dacoity cases are registered against him at various police stations of Dhubri and Bongaigaon area", Gurav said and stated that Police is searching his companions that had fled from the spot.
