Silchar, May 12: Amidst the rising spike in COVID-19 cases, Cachar district administration facilitated vaccination for media persons working within Cachar district.

The Cachar District Administration in association with the District Health Department as many as 230 media persons and their family members were administered vaccines in the COVID vaccination camp at the conference hall of Cachar Zilla Parishad on Wednesday. It is worth mentioning that in the vaccination camp 179 covaxin and 51 covishield vaccines were administered to the journalists and their family members in the camp.

Newly elected MLA of Silchar Dipayan Chakraborty graced the occasion, while delivering his speech he said"from the very beginning of the Corona pandemic, journalists and media persons have risked their lives to fulfill their responsibilities as frontline workers". He appreciated the efforts taken by District Administration Cachar for organising a vaccination camp to vaccinate the journalists and their family members. He appealed to the public to follow the Covid guidelines set up by the Government.


Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli who joined the camp to enthuse the journalists appreciated the role and responsibilities rendered by the media persons working in Cachar district in the battle against COVID-19.

" During the peak of COVID-19 , the media did its job and disseminated truth before us. The media understood the challenges and worked in tandem to assist in bringing about a systemic improvement amidst the circumstances. The media persons are exposed to the virus and hence this drive is taken for their safety," Jalli said. She was quick to add that similar targeted coverage for vaccination for the general public will be arranged in due course of time.

Asked about the speculations regarding the vaccines among the people, the Deputy Commissioner informed that she has had her second dose of vaccine jabbed and claimed that there is no reason for any fear of adverse effect. The mild effects are common to any routine immunisation and people must not pay heed to any rumour related to after effects of COVID vaccination, she added.

Gautam Talukdar, joint secretary of Silchar Press Club, said the covid vaccination camp was organized for the first time for journalists and their family members under the aegis of Cachar District Administration Cachar and in collaboration with working journalists. He appreciated the initiative taken by the Deputy Commissioner.
