Guwahati, Jun 8: The proscribed ULFA (I) today denied media reports that it was indulging in extortion in Upper Assam.
In a statement emailed to media here, the outfit alleged that security agencies were trying to malign the image of the ULFA by spreading false news about it, with no evidence to prove that the group was making any demands.
It further maintained that it was fully abiding by its three-month unilateral ceasefire, declared on May 15 last.
The outfit also rubbished reports that if it's financial backbone is broken, it will come for talks, and maintained that no such difficulties will make the ULFA give up it's cause.
It was, however, not against peace dialogue in principle.
