Raha , Feb 18 : In yet another case of cow smuggling the Raha police have seized one truck carrying cows and arrested two persons for alleged cow smuggling on Thursday night.

Police have also recovered 28 cows and seized the truck bearing no AS 01 JC 9256 used for the transportation of the cows.

Speaking to the Assam Tribune in Raha police station on Friday , Hrishikesh Hazarika , Officer-in-charge of Raha Police station, said that on Thursday night they got specific inputs that a truck loaded with cattle, was coming from Shivsagar and going to Bornihat , Meghalaya and would cross Raha toll plaza in night. Accordingly , two police teams from Raha P S got ready to intercept the truck.

"When the suspected vehicles were spotted at Saragaon area on four-lane highway our police team asked them to stop.However, the driver of the two vehicles accelerated their vehicles. A barricading was initiated and the vehicles were stopped later , said the police officer.

Hazarika further said that the another car which was used by the cow smugglers for road clearance purposes as if there were any police check post on the highway managed to escape.

The truck was later seized and the rescued cows were sent to a Gaushala in Nagaon.

The arrested accused have been found the driver of the vehicle and his assistant identified as Arki Dekhar and Soniki Tariang of Jowai district , Meghalaya.
