Silchar, Oct 4: As many as 62 priests from different parts of the district took part in the two-day-long workshop to learn and hone skills on the varied procedures of rituals involved in Durga Puja.


Organised by the Purohit Prashikshan Kendra, an organization of priests initiated by Late Subinay Gupta, the workshop witnessed various sessions on ways to brush up the sequence and intricacies of various rituals, chanting skills and other processes involved in the four-day festival.

On Saturday, the workshop was inaugurated by Lakhikanta Bhattacharjee. Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, who also attended the inaugural session appreciated the efforts and justified the importance of the workshop especially ahead of Durga Puja. Basudev Sarma, general secretary of the Sadarghat Shani Mandir also spoke on the occasion. Along with Lakhikanta Bhattacharjee, other veterans including Dr Sukhamoy Bhattacharjee, Amarendra Bhattacharjee and Sudip Chakraborty shared vital points with the participants during the session.

On the concluding day on Sunday at the Shyamananda Bhairab Bari here, Swami Boikuntananda Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission Seveshram Silchar laid stress on the need for regular workshops for the priests. Arjun Choudhury, faculty at GC College also spoke on the occasion. Kishore Bhattacharjee, secretary cum chief trainer of the Prashikshan Kendra, along with senior trainers cum vice presidents Rahul Bhattacharjee and Siddhartha Bhattacharjee imparted lessons to the priests through the reading of relevant texts on Durga Puja. Amarendra Bhattacharjee and Khounish Chakraborty also spoke on the occasion. Through a practical demonstration, the participants were trained on how to prepare the Nabapatrika.

Ruchindu Chakraborty, president of the Prashikshan Kendra expressed satisfaction with the successful conduct of the workshop and hoped that the sessions will benefit the learners to carry out the Puja rituals in a seamless manner. Lastly, he also stressed on the importance of performing the pujas by strictly adhering to the Government guidelines relating to the prevailing pandemic situation.
