Guwahati, March 19: The the Deputy Commissioner of Police on Friday suspended a traffic cop for allegedly thrashing a civilian in Paltan Bazar area in Guwahati.

A video of the entire episode has surfaced online wherein the traffic cop can be seen breaking into an altercation with a civilian who was on a bike with a woman and a child who was riding pillion on the motorcycle. The video led to a massive outrage over the incident.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admin) suspended the cop identified as Fakhruddin Ahmed of Paltan Bazar Traffic Branch, Central Guwahati Police District for his alleged indiscipline conduct.

In an order copy, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admin) wrote, "As directed, UBC/1431 Fakhruddin Ahmed of Paltan Bazar Traffic Branch, Central Guwahati Police District is placed under suspension with immediate effect for his indiscipline conduct. He will draw subsistence allowance as admissible under the rules. He is closed to OR with immediate effect."

In the video, the cop can be seen arguing with the civilian and later assaulting him. The man who was on his bike slides and the woman and the child fell on the ground. However, the cop keeps assaulting him, following which the man also counter-attacks. Shortly, a group of policemen enters the scene and is seen thrashing the man.

Netizens have slammed the law enforcement officials over the indecent behaviour and demanded immediate against all those involved in the incident.
