Silchar, Nov 6: In a major development, Cachar police detected a suspected object along the Assam Mizoram interstate border on Saturday.
The top brass of Cachar police reached the spot near an under-construction RCC bridge and are investigating the incident.
According to a senior police officer, the object has been kept at a safe location as per procedures, away from human settlement and experts have been called to check and ascertain whether it is explosive or was it just a hoax attempt to strike tension in the vicinity of the interstate border. "The locals had spotted the wrapped object laced with wires and kept close to the under-construction bridge along the interstate border area here. We have kept the object at a safe place and there is absolutely nothing to panic about. Our investigation is in progress. Experts will be reaching here at the earliest to inspect and ascertain the status of the object," the senior police officer said.
