Guwahati, Nov 11: Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy today appeared before the Gauhati High Court in connection with a case initiated against him in a trial court in Karimganj for allegedly delivering a hate speech in 2015.

The BJP leader pleaded before the high court for quashing of the entire proceedings initiated against him at the court of Additional Judicial Magistrate, Karimganj, for allegedly delivering a hate speech on the Ayodhya row at a function organised in Guwahati in March 2015.

Swamy had reportedly said at the function that mosques and churches are mere buildings and can be demolished, following which an FIR was lodged against him.

Swamy today argued his own case in the high court as a "petitioner-in-person".

Advocate Satya Sabharwal, who assisted Swamy in the high court, said the case was listed for final hearing today and arguments were made by both the sides.

"The court heard both the parties and reserved its order," Sabharwal said.
