Silchar, May 24: Amidst a spell of heavy rain and gusty winds sweeping across parts of Karimganj district on Monday evening as a consequence of the Yaas cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal, the district administration had put the resources on alert mode to combat any emergency situation amidst the constant rise of COVID-19 cases.

What has been worse was the impact of the heavy rain and strong winds in parts of Patharkandi constituency as it affected many people.

MLA Krishnendu Paul, who is now in Guwahati owing to the ongoing Assembly session shared on his social media that

due to heavy storm, many houses at various areas of Patharkandi LAC are badly damaged. He also mentioned that he has asked Circle Officer Patharkandi to take stock of the situation by providing the storm-hit families with relief materials for now.

Meanwhile, newly joined Deputy Commissioner Khargeswar Pegu has said that all the resource units have been instructed to look into the developments for necessary subsequent steps to be taken.
