Spike in COVID-19 cases: Karimganj District admin converts institutions into COVID Care Centres

Silchar, May 23: As many as 58 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Karimganj district on Sunday stretching the tally of active cases to 726. However, 75 persons have been discharged on the day, sources said.

In this backdrop, the district authorities have converted some institutions into COVID Care Centres with immediate effect. An order to this effect was issued here on Saturday by District Magistrate cum Chairman, DDMA, Khageswar Pegu. With the order coming into force on Saturday, Model School, Lowaipoa under Patharkandi Revenue Circle, RK Nagar College Girls' Hostel under RK Nagar Revenue Circle, Jatrapur Girls' Hostel under Nilambazar Revenue Circle and GC Paul B.Ed College under RK Nagar Revenue Circle have been turned into COVID Care Centres.

The order stated that the Circle Officers will remain overall in-charge of the centres. It directed the Joint Director, Health Services to depute a Nodal Officer and to facilitate medical facilities to the inmates of the COVID Care Centres
