Silchar youth arrested for expressing desire on social media to join ULFA

Silchar, Mar 28: Police arrested a youth identified as Bappa Kumar after the latter had recently made a post sharing a news link on his Facebook page allegedly expressing his desire to join the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA-I)

On his timeline, Bappa Kumar had shared the post which stated that a good number of youths in Assam are joining the militant outfit and he wrote a caption, "Good job, I readi joining plzzzz address give...." Interestingly, his Facebook timeline reflects nationalistic posts as well.

Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur informed on Monday that the man, a resident of Itkhola area in Silchar has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. "The post on social media by the person, who is a Class-12 pass out, was traced by the Cyber Crime portal and we generated a report and registered a case. During interrogation, he confessed his interest in joining the militant outfit. The case falls under Crime crime as well as the UAPA Act, 1967 also. He has been forwarded to judicial custody and we will be going for his remand for further investigation," the SP informed.
