Silchar, Jan 15: In a major development, Prof Rajive Mohan Pant, professor at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) in Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Assam University Silchar.
Prof Pant would be replacing the outgoing vice-chancellor Prof Dilip Chandra Nath, who was rendering his duties as the vice-chancellor of the varsity from May 2016.
In a letter issued by the Ministry of Education Government of India on January 14, it has been stated that Prof Pant would be the new vice-chancellor of Assam University Silchar for a period of five years from the date of joining the office or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
The appointment was made by the President of India in the exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the Statutes of the Assam University.
The terms and conditions of the new vice-chancellor shall be those as outlined in the Act, Statutes and Ordinances of the university, read the letter.
Prof Pant was also the director(on deputation) at the National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, North Eastern Regional Centre, Guwahati from 2014-2021.
