Hailakandi, March 22: An auto driver died and six passengers have been shifted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital in a very critical condition after a serious accident occurred in Nischintapur village of Hailakandi district on Monday.
Police sources said that a speeding Alto car collided with a passenger auto on National Highway 154 at Nischintapur, the outskirt of Hailakandi town.
Both the vehicles were damaged badly. Local people rescued the injured persons.
All the passengers were brought to nearby SK Roy Civil Hospital and they are forwarded to SMCH immediately where the auto driver Ainul Haque Mazumdar succumbed to his injury.
He is a resident of Jalalpur area of Lala. The injured persons are Abhijit Chasha, Lakshmi Paul, Sankhu Paul, minor girl Nirakiya Paul, Nazrul Islam Barbhuiya and Dipankar Das.
Police seized both the vehicles from the spot.
