Silchar, June 17: Silchar MLA underscores need better academic results from Govt institutions.

Five girl students from different colleges of Cachar district who had secured first division in the Higher Secondary examinations for the sessions 2018 and 2019 were handed over keys of scooties on Thursday as a part of Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Awards under Pragyan Bharati Scheme launched by the State Government.


At the brief function held at Women's College Silchar maintaining COVID-19 protocol, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty alongside DDC Cachar Rajib Roy and eminent personality Bimalendu Roy handed over keys and Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award certificates ceremonially to the five students in the presence of Dr Manoj Kumar Paul, the principal of the college.

Speaking on the occasion, Dipayan Chakraborty said "this is indeed an inspirational move by the State Government and I wish the recipients good luck in their careers ahead. However, I would like to see more students from Government schools and colleges with better results avail the awards in the coming years. Teachers in the Government run institutions must focus on this aspect and students too should take this as a motivational factor."

DDC Cachar Rajib Roy and Bimalendu Roy also spoke on the occasion reflecting the need to adhere to the traffic rules and wearing of helmets while riding on road. Dr Paul, the principal of the college informed that for the sessions 2018 and 2019, a total of 390 girl students from Cachar district would be given scooties under the scheme of which five students were handed over the keys and certificates.

He added that under the restrictions due to COVID-19, while the document verification of the students have been completed at the college, the recipients have been asked to collect their scooties from the concerned dealer in the town.
