Guwahati, Oct 25: In a heartening trend this year, road accidents during the Durga Puja festivities have substantially decreased, leading to fewer admissions in hospitals across Guwahati for accident-related injuries.
A total of 282 individuals were admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) over the four-day celebration, marking a significant improvement in road safety compared to previous years.
The data revealed a breakdown in admissions over the four main days of Durga Puja:
Saptami (Day 1): 52 people were admitted to GMCH for accident-related injuries.
Ashtami (Day 2): The number increased to 64 admissions.
Navami (Day 3): There were 80 admissions reported.
Dashami (Day 4): The highest number of admissions occurred on Dashami, with 86 people seeking medical assistance for accident injuries.
It is to be noted that this year no fatalities have been reported till now.
In contrast, the previous year saw a tragic toll of 13 lives lost due to road accidents during the Durga Puja period, with 329 individuals admitted to GMCH for treatment.
This positive turn of events can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of police along with the vigilance of the public which have played a pivotal role in preventing road accidents and protecting the lives of festivalgoers.
