Recovery of minor's body triggers tension in Ashram road, two apprehended, situation under control says Cachar SP

Silchar, Sept 15: Tense situation triggered in Ashram road area of Silchar on Wednesday evening after mob resorted to alleged vandalism as an outburst of anger over the recovery of the dead body of a minor girl of the locality who went missing last Sunday.


According to sources, the body of the missing minor girl was spotted floating in the waters of river Barak at Madhuraghat on Wednesday and subsequently, police recovered the body. However, the situation turned tense following the identification of the body by the family members, sources said. Sources also added that an FIR was filed by the family members of the minor and police had picked up one person for interrogation in the incident.


However, on Wednesday evening, the mob turned aggressive and set ablaze the two-wheeler of a person. Police along with CRPF rushed to the spot to control the situation and disperse the mob. Police said that along with one house, two shops were vandalized in the incident.


Sources informed that the family of the victim has alleged that the minor girl has been molested and demanded the strictest punishment to the guilty.


Meanwhile, on Thursday Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur informed that the case is being investigated and based on suspicion four persons have been detained. She added that the situation was brought under control and police had to take non-lethal pump action to disperse the mob. Two police persons have been injured in Wednesday's incident, Kaur told reporters. "After due procedure, a post-mortem was conducted and the minor's body has been handed over to the family for cremation. The investigation in the case is in progress. I urge upon the people not to take the law into their hands and let the police do its duty," the SP maintained.


Meanwhile Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty has also condemned the incident and said that the incident of vandalism will be investigated as well and the guilty shall be punished as per law.
