Raha, Oct 9: With the arrest of 3 persons, all bookies, and seizure of 35 teer slips, 2 numbers teer books, 1 mobile phone and 1 calculator Raha police claim to have busted an organised teer (gambling) racket operating from Barapujia area under Raha police station on Friday.

Mrigen Saikia , officer in-charge , Raha P S said to this correspondent , " Acting on a tip-off about teer gambling ongoing in the area, a special police team of Raha PS led by him raided the shop of one Biplab Patar at Barapujia Chariali and apprehended the accused on Friday afternoon."

Police also seized Rs 1460 in cash, 3 ball pens and 1 number target slip from the possession of the bookies.

The accused are identified as Nipen Chandra Phukan of Phukantup village and Biplab Patar , Mukunda Patar both from Bogaon village of Barapujia.

Police further said that a huge network of teer gamblers is active in many parts of Raha, Barapujia and Chaparmukh causing great financial losses to the villagers and destroying the society as well. The officer in-charge also initiated a mass awareness drive among people against the illegal game by any social organisation and assured all kinds of help from Raha police to eradicate it.
