Hailakandi, June 30: Padmanabh Baruah has joined today as new Superintendent of Police of Karimganj. He replaced Mayank Kumar who has been transferred as SP of Railway in Pandu.
The sudden transfer of Mayank Kumar from Karimganj has created confusion among a section of people. Kumar started operations against illegal coal trade in the Indo-Bangladesh international border and also arrested some people connected with the alleged illegal trade. The alleged illegal trade of coal, Burmese betel nut, fertilizer, forest goods etc are a matter of serious concern in Barak Valley.
Many political leaders and organisations have raised their voice against it as the government is losing revenue due to this.
