Guwahati, Jan 5: An Assam based Padma Awardee was booked under the POCSO Act for allegedly raping a minor who also happens to be his adopted child, said reports.

Following a complaint filed by the Chief Judicial Magistrate who was notified by the District Legal Services Authority (DSLA) on December 17, the Assam Police registered an FIR against the man, invoking sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act.

Meanwhile, the said accused moved the Gauhati High Court, seeking pre-arrest bail. He was later granted bail on December 28, and the court summoned the case diary on January 7.

According to reports, the case is considered to be sub judice and further investigations are underway.

As per the bail order by Justice Arun Dev Choudhury, the alleged offence by the accused was "serious in nature".

The victim is currently under police protection and has been accommodated in a children's home.

As quoted in reports, the child was under the foster care of the accused and was repeatedly subjected to rape for over a year. It also mentioned that the preliminary medical examinations supported the allegations.

The FIR further states that the victim was placed under the care of the accused for a period of one year after which the child's foster care deed has to be renewed. However, the accused did not renew the deed nor did he place the child before the CWC when the deed expired.
