Silchar, Aug 10: In a bid to maintain the oxygen level in fisheries, five paddle wheel aerators under RKVY RAFTAAR, 2019-20 were installed at Lake Front farm of Himadri Dey, a beneficiary of the Department of Fisheries in Cachar district on Tuesday.

Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli ceremonially inaugurated the paddle wheel aerators at the farm located in Udharbond in the presence of Amitabh Roy, president of Cachar Zilla Parishad, Subodh Das, Borjalenga block president, Milon Roy, representative of Udharbond MLA Mihir Kanti Shome and officials of District Fishery Department. According to Gonesh Borah, Fishery development officer, it is a first of its kind step taken for Barak Valley and the aerators will help double the fish production.

Appreciating the efforts, Deputy Commissioner Jalli said "it is a sign of Atmanirbharta with entrepreneurs developing spaces. Government is in pursuit of promoting technology based solutions. Under RKVY these aerators increase fish production by three times. More and more fishermen can adopt this to increase production and make Cachar self reliant in fish production."

Rafiqul Hoque, the District Fishery Development Officer in-charge Cachar elaborated the technical aspects of the initiative and said that the tools will boost the productivity of the water body and thus will lead to the increase in fish production.
