Opposition parties spreading false propaganda: Ronghang

By Correspondent

Diphu, Aug 28: Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council's Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang denounced certain political parties for spreading false narrative of possible deletion of names of non-tribal voters from the electoral roll of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

"Some political parties are misleading common people by spreading misinformation. They are demanding cancellation of voting rights of non-tribal communities. In the Constitution of India it has not been mentioned in Paragraph 2 Sub-paragraph 7 of the Sixth Schedule, that voting rights of other communities can be disregarded.

In 1951, the first deputy chairman of the previous Mikir Hills District Council was not from the hill tribe," Ronghang said while addressing a joining ceremony organized by the BJP party at Longkam Teron Auditorium, Dokmoka in eastern part of the district.

"When the ASDC-CPI (ML) was in power in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, they stressed the people and now they are rejected now. The APHLC has no elected members in the council. They are not the one to bring development," Ronghang said.

The demand for removal of all names of non tribal voters from the electoral roll of council has diluted political setting of Karbi Anglong district after Jones Ingti Kathar led APHLC demanded making of new rules under para-2 (7) & 20 of the Sixth Schedule and formation of Autonomous Council's own election mechanism by rejecting the State Election Commission for conducting election to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, the KAAC CEM, added.
