On National Librarians Day, Smart Library System inaugurated at Assam University, Silchar

Silchar, Aug 12: Officials and staff of Central Library at Assam University Silchar, also known as Rabindra Library observed National Librarians' Day on Thursday to commemorate 129th birth anniversary of Padma Shri Dr. S.R. Ranganathan.

As part of the occasion, the Smart Library System (RFID), Dynamic Library Portal and Single Service Desk were inaugurated by vice chancellor of the varsity Prof Dilip Chandra Nath. He paid homage to the Father of Library Science, Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, and shared his views regarding the technological development of libraries in the modern times.

The vice chancellor appreciated the efforts of the Library staff and said that with addition of these services, another milestone has been added to the achievements of the university library.

Director, College Development Council Jayanta Bhattacharjee shared his views regarding the positive effect of digital access in libraries during the pandemic situation.

Dr. Vikram Sharma, the university librarian thanked the vice chancellor for his support and continuous cooperation. Dr. Sharma shared that the Five Laws of Library Science, postulated by Padma Shri Dr S.R. Ranganathan are more relevant in the present era and technology is a tool to achieve it. Dr. Sharma, while proposing vote of thanks, appreciated the efforts of the Team Library and said that the Assam University library is going to play a role model for the libraries especially in implementing the technological applications.
